Networking of computer gave birth to information technology (IT). Sansanwar (2000) defined IT as the use
of hardware and software for efficient management of information storage,
retrieval, processing communication, diffusion and sharing of information for
social, economic and cultural upliftment. The IT led to the development of web
sites. Government, corporate sector, educational institutions etc stated
uploading the information on their websites. It provides facilities for chat,
email, surfing etc. Prior to IT, people were using print material for searching
the information.
Information technology (IT) is the
application of computers and telecommunications equipment to store, retrieve,
transit and manipulate data, often in the context of a business or other
enterprise.
The term is commonly used as a synonym for computer networks, but it
also encompasses other information distribution technologies such as television
and telephones. Several industries are associated with information technology,
including computer hardware, software, electronics, semiconductors, internet,
telecom equipment, engineering, healthcare, e-commerce and computer services.
